Solar and Battery Installation Christchurch
We design and install solar and battery systems for homes, farms and businesses across Canterbury.
The difference between us and a solar sales company is that we are electricians first. We are the ones who have to connect it to your switchboard, get it through the lines company, and come back if something stops working. That tends to produce a more conservative design and fewer surprises.
How we approach it
We start with what you actually use, not what a standard package assumes. Your power bills over a year show the shape of your usage, and that shape decides whether solar alone makes sense, whether a battery earns its keep, and how big either needs to be.
Then the practical constraints: roof orientation and shading, how much space there really is once you allow for clearances, the state of the switchboard, and what the lines company will approve for export.
You get a written design showing panel layout, inverter and battery selection, expected generation and the assumptions behind it. If the numbers do not work we will tell you.
Equipment
We work with proven, well supported equipment rather than whatever is cheapest that month, because the system has to still be serviceable in ten years. That means inverters and panels from manufacturers with a real presence in New Zealand, so parts and support are still available when you need them.
We are not tied to one brand. The right inverter and panel combination depends on the roof, the load and whether a battery is going in now or later, so we specify per job rather than selling one package to everyone.
Batteries
A battery does two different jobs and it is worth being clear which one you are buying. It can shift your own generation into the evening, which saves money. Or it can keep the house running through an outage, which is about not losing the contents of the freezer and still having lights.
Those two goals size the battery differently. Backup in particular depends entirely on how many hours you want to cover and what you want running during them. We will ask you that before quoting rather than after.
Rural and off-grid
Rural sites have different problems. Long supply runs, voltage drop, pumps and sheds that draw hard when they start, and outages that last longer than they do in town. We have worked on rural supply and generation across Canterbury and can look at the whole picture rather than just the roof.
Lines company and compliance
Grid-connected systems need approval from Orion before they can export. We handle that application, the inverter commissioning and the Certificate of Compliance.
Contact us with a recent power bill and we can tell you whether solar stacks up for your place before anyone comes out.
