Data Cabling and Networking Christchurch

Wi-Fi covers a lot, but the things that matter still want a cable. We install structured cabling, comms racks and networks for homes, offices and industrial sites across Christchurch.

Structured cabling

Cat6 or Cat6A to wall outlets, terminated on a patch panel in a comms cabinet, tested and labelled. Not cable draped through a ceiling and jammed into a plug.

Labelling and a record of what goes where is half the value. When something stops working in three years, the difference between a five minute fix and an afternoon of tracing is whether anyone wrote it down.

Comms rooms and racks

Rack supply and fit-out, patch panels, UPS, ventilation and clean power. A comms cabinet with no ventilation and a daisy chain of multiboxes is a fire waiting to happen and we see it regularly.

We can also arrange monitoring of the rack environment, so you know about a failing UPS or a room getting hot before it takes the network down. See energy monitoring.

Wi-Fi

Good Wi-Fi is mostly about access point placement and getting cable to those points, not about buying a bigger router. For larger homes, offices and sheds we plan coverage, cable the access points and set them up to hand devices over cleanly.

Fibre and new builds

If you are building, running data cable before the linings go on costs very little and is close to impossible to add tidily later. We put in conduit and cable to the places you will want them, including outbuildings, garages and the spots you have not thought of yet.

Industrial and rural sites

Connecting plant, cameras and sensors across a yard or farm is a different problem from an office. Distances are longer, the environment is harder, and running fibre or copper is not always practical. We use industrial cabling where it suits and long range wireless where it does not.
