Christchurch winters make heating the biggest line on a lot of power bills. We handle heat pumps, ducted systems and ventilation as part of the wider electrical job, so it is one team and one point of contact rather than three trades pointing at each other.
Where a manufacturer warranty requires an accredited installer, we work with installers we know and trust and carry out the electrical work and sign-off ourselves.
Heat pumps
High wall units for a single room, or ducted systems running the whole house off one outdoor unit. Which one is right depends on the layout, the insulation, and whether you actually need every room heated or just the ones you live in.
Sizing is where most heat pump installs go wrong. Undersized and it runs flat out and never quite gets there. Oversized and it short cycles, which is inefficient and wears it out faster. We size on the room, not on a price list.
Ducted systems
For new builds and substantial renovations, ducted is usually the better answer. One outdoor unit, no wall units in every room, and zoning so you are not paying to heat bedrooms all day.
Ducted systems need to be planned early because the ducting needs ceiling space and the plenum needs somewhere to live. If you are building, raise it before the trusses are set rather than after.
Ventilation and Healthy Homes
Heating a house that cannot get rid of moisture is an expensive way to grow mould. Positive pressure ventilation and extraction move damp air out and make the heating work properly.
For rentals, Healthy Homes standards set requirements for heating capacity in the main living area, extraction in kitchens and bathrooms, and insulation. We can assess a property against those, install what is needed and give you documentation for your records. See property managers and landlords.
Controls
Heat pumps and ventilation are worth putting on a schedule. Heating an empty house from eight in the morning is money out the window, and most people never touch the timer. We can set that up properly, and where a house has automation the heating can respond to occupancy rather than a fixed timetable.
